Unit 1: Pandemic Story

Covid-19 and 2020 really kicked my butt this year. I first heard of covid while travelling overseas last February. At the time covid was only in China and masks were not enforced, so it wasn’t a big deal for me. I just made sure to sanitize everything and be precautious of what I was touching. About two months after I came back from my trip, covid had reached the U.S. and everyone was under lockdown.

While everyone was supposed to be in quarantine, I unfortunately still had to work. It started off at first with limiting the number of people in the store, and then the lockdown got stricter and we had to settle on doing deliveries. Doing deliveries was fun. I was getting paid more, got free gas, got off earlier. I’m bestfriends with all my coworkers so we would just drive around and listened to music everyday. Just vibing.

After a while we were able to open back up the store and go back to limiting the amount of people in the facility. Certain things were starting to get easier and I started to get into the routine of covid being “normal” now. Last month I started to get a bit sniffly, but I usually get a cold during November time so I thought it was no biggie. Then I ended up losing taste and was like ‘oh sh*t.’ It took me a while to get tested but I stayed home during that time. Trying to get an appointment to a testing site was so frustrating, but I ended up getting it done and resulted with a positive.

I’ve currently been in quarantine with my boyfriend at my house. The beginning of quarantine and waiting during the time of our results was torture. We were so bored that at one point I forced my boyfriend to learn how to french braid so that he could braid my hair. I even sadly had to miss Thanksgiving with my family this year. They still brought me food, but it was just bitter sweet.

After settling into our quarantine life, I learned that I LOVE it. Covid sucks, but quarantine is so nice. It gave me a halt in my busy life and gave me time to focus on catching up with school work (hence the overdue post), chores around the house, working out, and working/taking time for myself. Being in quarantine is kind of a blessing in disguise. Its like a big weight being lifted off my shoulders. I learned to make every day fun and productive. I’ve been symptom free for the past week or two, and got retested last Wednesday. I’m still waiting for the results, but I’ll be sad to be leaving quarantine. I’ll have to be a real person again…a wage slave. Nice.
